2 weeks post event

It’s now more than 2 weeks since the challenge ended and firstly I must a big thank you to everyone who sponsored me and an even bigger thank you to  those of you who’ve paid up the full amount even though I didn’t make 10,000 steps every day.  I’m still waiting on the last few payments to come in, including my sister who offered the full amount provided I kept walking and could hit 126 tokens before Easter.  Good incentive there and I have still been walking, just its been nearer 6,000 steps a day than 10,000, but I’m not that far from 126 token now sis.

Best news though, is that I got on the scales yesterday…blinked, peered closer, got off, checked they were zero’d correctly and got back on fully expecting the result to have changed.  But no, they still said I’m half a stone lighter than when I started back in January.  Yipee!!!  So I’m definitely going to keep up the higher exercise rate in fact when I finish writing this I shall go for a short walk before heading into work.

Again thank you everyone for your support.

Just short of 150 miles

The challenge is over and I walked just short of 150 miles over the 6 week period, which even if I say it myself I don’t think is too bad.  Especially when I consider there were 3 days of pretty much zero walking due to ill health, then there was the week of snow and ice when we all seriously wondered how walking could be good for the health as we slipped and slid along.

But I’ve done it and whilst the scales only show about 3 pounds lost, my jeans are all much looser around the waist and I feel heaps better in myself.  So I’ve made the decision that I’m not giving up.  OK so 10, 000 every day remains an elusive target if I want to have time to relax of an evening but 6,000 is definitely doable.  Instead of giving up all desserts during length I’m making a public commitment to walk at least 6,000 steps every day until Easter.  That’s about another month of effort.

I must say a huge thank you to everyone who has sponsored me and tell you that it’s now time to cough up some money.  I will be contacting all you lucky folk over the next few days.  And I will be back here at least once more to tell the world how much I raised for Cerebral Palsy Sport.

The last weekend

So it’s the last weekend and I thought I’ll make time for a final big push, make time to try to take Tom up on his offer of  a cup of tea if I could walk to his house, but I feel a spanner or two being thrown in the works and it’s only 9.30 Saturday morning. Continue reading

Troubles in the home straight

So half way through the final week of the challenge and there’s trouble ‘t mill as they say.  The all essential pedometer failed me again yesterday and this time replacing the battery did nothing to solve the problem!  It would happily track the date and time but was not count a single step.  :( Continue reading

Something different

As I hit the end of week 5 and enter the final week of this challenge I have to admit finding the motivation to walk every day remains a challenge but at least it’s not quite so exhausting the day after.

Today however I thought I’d try something different – Continue reading

Week 5 begins

Week 5 already and given how badly last week went due to illness, I feel as though I’m back to the beginning and today was day 1, week 1 again and I think I need some fresh motivation to complete this challenge on a high.  Anyone got any ideas?

End of Week 3

As I approach the end of week 3, I’ve definitely achieved 42 health tokens (need another 300 steps to take today’s total from 1 to 2 tokens) making 43 tokens, which equates to approximately £50 in sponsorship – half way to my target of £100.  Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me.  Remember it’s not too late to sign up to sponsor me. Lying down on the job?

So since my pedometer froze on Tuesday, I seem to have constantly been checking it to see if it’s still adding steps and I have to admit I’m not convinced it’s catching them all. Particularly on Wednesday evening when I was plodding around thinking about  getting ready for bed and the number of steps didn’t seem to be going up I gave up.  If it was going to lie down and give up on the job of getting me to 10,000 steps, then I was going to, too.  Yes I threw in the towel and went to bed early.
